The international traveller is potentially exposed to any number of insect borne diseases. While the world wide burden of malaria may be decreasing, it remains a significant threat to travellers. Recent years have seen the spread of a number of insect borne viruses, including Dengue Fever virus, Chikungunya and Zika Virus. This workshop will summarise strategies that at risk travellers can adopt to reduce their risk of contracting an insect borne disease. Strategies discussed will include the use of personal protective measures (insect repellents, insecticide impregnated clothing and bed nets), immunoprophylaxis and chemoprophylaxis (including commonly prescribed anti-malarials).
