Trained in Otago University graduating in 1995 with an MBChB. Worked at Dunedin Hospital as a house officer for 2 years. Worked and travelled in Europe and Asia for 2 years before returning to New Zealand in 1999. Registrar at Christchurch Hospital 1999-2004 where trained in Nephrology and General Medicine. Completed a clinical fellowship in Leicester UK, in 2005, before taking up a consultant position in Dunedin Hospital, in 2006. This was initially split between General Medicine and Nephrology but changed to full time nephrology in 2007.

Currently involved in several areas of research including the assessment of physiological variables in CKD and drug handling in CKD. Several company sponsored clinical trials also currently underway.
