Lucy Holtzhausen
Lucy graduated from the University of Witwatersrand Medical School in 1987 and completed a two year postgraduate Honours degree in Sports Medicine at the University of Cape Town in 1992. She undertook research into the management of collapsed ultra-endurance athletes and the provision of best-care emergency medical practice at ultra-endurance athletic events whilst lecturing in the Departments of Anatomy and Physiology, Cape Town University between 1990 and 1999. She immigrated to New Zealand in 2000 with her husband and two children. She completed with distinction a Postgraduate Diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine through Otago University in 2005 and a Masters in Pain Medicine through the University of Newcastle in 2008. Toward the end of 2009 she completed her fellowship training with the Australasian Faculty of Musculoskeletal Medicine and now practices as a Musculoskeletal and Sports Medicine Specialist in Auckland, New Zealand. She has been race medical director for the NZ Ironman event since 2003. She also lecturers part-time in the Department of Musculoskeletal Medicine, Otago University, on sports injuries.
