Best Practice for Managing Perinatal Mood Disorders
Nurses Programme
Saturday, 14 June 2014 Start 4:30pm Duration: 30mins Sportsdrome
When postnatal distress is identified and treated quickly women have the opportunity to be supported in their motherhood journey. With timely treatment the outcome can be a securely attached, emotionally available new mother, and new family. We will consider the long-term personal and societal impact for those women and their families when PND is not recognised. This session will create awareness of the importance of recognizing antenatal and postnatal distress. I will define distress and specify the symptoms of distress and who is most at risk for both women and men. If there is time we will then engage in a conversation as to why it is vital to be aware of these symptoms and risk factors.
