Suicide First Aid and e-Mental Health in Primary Care - CANCELLED
Concurrent Workshop
Saturday, 16 August 2014 Start 4:30pm Duration: 60mins Room 7
Lifeline New Zealand leads the way in applied suicide intervention skills training, e-mental health tools and telephone support services in New Zealand. Expanding from a single telephone helpline service, Lifeline New Zealand has transformed into a cutting edge, multi-channel helpline environment. Through face to face, telephone, email, web-chat, text messaging and video calling capabilities, Lifeline New Zealand offers support 24 hours a day.

Our presentation will discuss the advantages of using suicide first aid skills in a primary care setting, how a suicide crisis line and other e-mental health tools can be used by primary care and how internationally such services save significant health dollars across primary and secondary care.

What are the benefits and challenges of working in a multi-channel environment? What is e-mental health and what are the perceived advantages? Much of the work we do involves the relief of complex symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief and addiction. We will share our experience of working with individuals using a brief intervention model and the latest communication technologies.

We aim to show the primary care community how our services can enhance the work they already do and offer additional support to families/whanau and carers.
