The GPs Role in Supporting Cancer Patients Community Treatments
Concurrent Workshop Repeated
Friday, 15 August 2014 Start 2:00pm Duration: 55mins Room 9
Start 3:05pm Duration: 55mins Room 9
Traditionally cancer treatments have been administered in the hospital setting; but with the new wave of oncology treatments coming through it is becoming very common for patients to be offered innovative targeted oral treatments. Oral treatments are cost effective for the health service and convenient for patients (as they can be treated at home), but unfortunately come with a multitude of challenges, such as side effect and symptom management, and an increase in patients feeling isolated, anxious and alone through lack of contact with hospital services.

Olivia and Clare, both with clinical experience at the Auckland Cancer Society will update you on what these treatment changes mean for patients and their families and how you can best support your patients in the community as well as enhance and extend the care being delivered by their specialist oncology team.
